Optical Alignment Lab
In this lab, we were tasked to build simple devices to test our skills in assembling and aligning optical devices. We were tasked to:
- Align a laser
- Measure beam width
- Install a telescope
- Align an optical device
Task 3 - Review of Geometric Optics
This task covers a basic review of the geometric properties of Optics. This review includes:
- Light rays
- Specular Reflection
- Paraxial rays
- Converging and Diverging mirrors
- Real and Virtual images
Task 4 - Review of Physical Optics
This task covers a basic review of the physical properties of Optics. This review includes:
- Early light wave experiments
- In-phase and out-of-phase waves
- Diffraction through a double slit
- Diffraction through a single slit
Task 5 - Simple Optical Devices
In this lab, we were tasked to build three simple optical devices:
- Total internal reflection of a laser source through a prism
- A basic beam expander for a laser source
- A basic telescope
Task 6 - Poisson's Spot, Double Slit, and Michelson Interferometer
In this lab, we were tasked to build three slightly complex optical devices:
- Poisson's Spot
- Double slit interference
- Michelson Interferometer
Task 7 - Basic Microscope
In this lab, we were tasked to build a basic microscope that consisted of:
- Light condenser
- Objective lens
- Translating stage
- Eyepiece
Task 9 - Dark Field Microscope
In this lab, we were tasked to build a novel microscope. The microscope chosen by the group was the Dark Field Microscope, which consisted of:
- Light condenser with inner blocking disk
- Objective lens
- Translating stage
- Eyepiece
Pepper's Ghost
In this assignment, we were tasked with making a spooky video featuring the illusion, Pepper's Ghost. The materials to be used were:
- A transparent sheet of plastic
- A camera
- A light
